It’s funny how a new year can carry with it so much hope and motivation. The opportunity to start again, taking a new approach to the next 365 days. Our slogan "2012 A New Year : A New You!" doesn't just refer to the outer beauty but the inner as well. When we strive to become our better selves we all benefit from a better and kinder world. Therefore, we asked our KNX Community what their resolutions are for the 2012 year, tell us what yours is!

Here's my resolution for the year:

Last year was amazing! Let’s do it bigger and better for 2012! My New Year’s resolution is to make my clients smile brighter by helping them look their best! Rise to the occasion of every beauty challenge and use the full range of my talents to succeed. Last but not least stay connected with my clients via social media. INOA: ODS Technology

Before there was haircolor. Now there is INOA with ODS Technology!

How traditional permanent haircolor with ammonia works: Ammonia ensures the penetration of colorants into the hair for a perfect color result – ammonia swells (blows open) the hair to allow colorants & oxidant to penetrate the cortex. However, this mixture is water based, therefore some colorants stay outside of the hair fiber and never get colored. The mixture inside the hair cortex will begin to react and oxidize with the oxidant, thus creating two effects: 1. lightens hair pigments 2. transforms colorants into color.

However, there is another alkaline agent used in demi-permanent color called MEA or (monoethanolamine), to more gently open the hair shaft. With MEA, this translates to less damage, depending on quantity. It is usually not enough for colorants to penetrate the hair fiber, especially when colorants are in the water base on the outside of the hair. For this reason, Permanent color with MEA alone do not pigment hair efficiently.

Introducing ODS – Oil Delivery System Technology – THE HAIRCOLOR OF THE FUTURE!

ODS – Oil based system boosts the action of MEA and alkaline agents during the coloring process, ODS is based on two major features: 1. High concentration of oils 2. Elimination of ammonia!! Here’s how:

Oil in the ODS system coats the hair fiber. MEA opens the hair lightly (with little change in the structure) as the colorants and the oxidant are pushed deeper into the hair by the oil. Colorants & Alkaline agents are water based, so they are repelled by the oil and the active ingredients move inside the hair.

Coupled with the ODS system, MEA becomes highly efficient in ensuring the penetration of all colorants into the hair cortex. The mixture inside the cortex will begin to react and oxidize alkaline agents creating two effects: 1. Lightens the hair pigments. 2. Transforms colorants into color.

The Mizani Theory for the Science of African-American Hair

Ethnic heritage varies from individual to individual, and a blending of ancestries is evident in many ways. Within the African American community, this mixing of histories is most obvious in skin tone and hair texture variances. Nowhere is the balance of beauty and chemistry more vital than in ethnic hair - characterized by an oval and flat cellular structure.

80% of all African American hair is characterized as tight or excessively curly (Figure A).

African American hair problems begin with improper manipulation of these characteristic twists and turns in the tightly curled hair shaft.

Stress accumulates at the twists of tightly curled African American hair, where elasticity naturally diminishes (Figure B). Due to these accumulated stress points, combing, brushing, styling and chemical processes can be more stressful to excessively curly hair than straight hair (Figure C).

As we look deeper into the hair shaft, we see two vitally important layers - the cuticle (Figure D) and the cortex (Figure E). Each layer performs a separate yet interdependent function. When properly understood and carefully manipulated, these layers work together to create healthy, shiny, resilient hair (Figure F).
